A Devoted Christian
Music Recommendation: Deep in Love With You by Michael W.Smith
A devoted person is someone characterized by unwavering loyalty, deep affection, and steadfast commitment.
So, a devoted Christian should be someone characterized by unwavering loyalty, deep affection, and steadfast commitment to God and His cause, yeah?
But recently, I got thinking about what devotion actually means.
What does God regard as devotion?
Do I measure up to it?
Because if the One you claim to be devoted to has a different way of measuring devotion, then whatever you do outside of that is just a waste of time.
So I had to look at one very prominent example of devotion in the Bible.
David, of course.
Gosh, the more I learn about him, the more I realize there are still ways for me to go, especially when it comes to devotion.
If you hear someone say, “My devotion is on track,” you’d probably think of consistency in prayer and Bible study. You might even add church attendance and kingdom stewardship.
And you’d be very correct.
However, if you’re struggling with the very basics, I’d like to recommend you to a devotional platform that’s an answer to that struggle. TRIUMPH 30 devotional platform on YouTube, every weekday from 6 am to 7 am. You’re welcome!
When you read about David, especially his life before the throne in 1 Samuel, you begin to understand that devotion was more than a routine for him.
Remember how the definition said, “characterized by unwavering loyalty”?
That was David.
Before He was anointed, before He faced Goliath, before people knew his name, he showed his devotion to God through songs of worship
His devotion to God went beyond routine; it was literally who he was.
The day the Lord helped me realize that everything about me that has meaning is because of Him unlocked a different depth of perspective. So when I read about David, I see what that looks like in real life.
Being devoted to God means that your decisions—the big ones and the small ones, the important pieces of your life, the moving pieces and the constants—everything points to an unrelenting loyalty to Him. It’s just obvious. Whether it’s convenient or not.
In the way he respected the oil on Saul’s head, even when Saul sought to kill him.
In the way he saw God’s Word as a license to go.
In the way he found peace inside God’s Word.
Some of his psalms reveal moments of anxiety and distress, but even in the anxiety and in the midst of battle, he still laid it at the feet of God.
He surrendered both victories and fears to the One he was devoted to.
David oozed loyalty in every way possible.
He was loyal to God and His cause through and through.
“The one thing I ask of the Lord—
the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
delighting in the Lord’s perfections
and meditating in His Temple.”
Psalms 27:4 (NLT)
It’s a lifestyle I hope to live up to.
So yeah, what’s the point of this entry?
I’m writing this to remind us that our lives should ooze loyalty and devotion.
When we get up from our prayer time and close our Bibles after study, let it still be obvious who we stand for.
Let it still be obvious where our allegiance lies.
Let our love and devotion to Jesus shape our lifestyle and character. Let our trials and challenges show where our devotion lies.
There are things your devotion will not let you watch, say, wear, or read.
There are places your devotion will not let you go, and people it will not let you keep around you.
Don’t let ndi “God sees the heart” crowd deceive you.
Your devotion comes with boundaries.
Online, let your devotion show.
Offline, let your devotion show.
In your heart, let your devotion show.
You have to choose a side and stick with it.
The fence is for the devil.
I pray for you and me that the grace to be characterized by our devotion in this lifetime would be available to us, significantly and thoroughly.
May our loyalty to God not simply be something we practice, but something that defines us.
Love,
Blossom
